Unicorn Eclipse Smartboard

Unicorn · United Kingdom · Website

iOS, Android

Unicorn's steel-tip sisal dartboard with sensors built into the board instead of cameras. The score of each dart is sent over Bluetooth to the free Unicorn Scorebuddy app on a phone or tablet. Local play is free; online play with friends needs the paid Scorebuddy Pro upgrade.

Upfront is the cheapest complete purchase without a dartboard. Per year is what removes free-tier limits. 3 years is upfront plus three years of that. Subscription prices are shown as the seller lists them.

What you need

Steel-tip darts and an iPhone, iPad or Android device with Bluetooth LE (iOS/iPadOS 12.2+). The scoring is built into the dartboard, so no separate board, PC, cameras or light ring are needed. A user review says each dart must first be magnetised on the board. Power source and mounting are not documented. Unicorn recommends rotating the board regularly to spread wear, as with any bristle board, and recalibrating it in the app.

Takeout
Partly automatic1
The app moves to the next player after three detected darts. Misses and turns with fewer than three darts need the 'Miss' button in the app; reviews differ on whether the button on the board also works.

Changes

  1. Added to the comparison.
  2. Upfront is now McDart's euro price (€282.95) instead of a converted UK price. Added that a worn board means buying a new Smartboard, as no replacement face is sold.
